For the manufacturer of cosmetics and personal care products it is important that you ensure your products are free of microorganism and safe for consumer use. This can be achieved through a sound quality assurance program. The most common methods for doing this are as follows:
- Aerobic plate count: This test determines the total number of aerobic bacteria in the product.
- Yeast and Mold count: This test determines the total number of yeast and molds in the product.
- Anti-microbial Effectiveness Test (Challenge Test) After preservatives are added to the product the challenge test evaluates the effectiveness of the preservative by introducing various strains of bacteria. Samples are tested at different intervals to determine the survival of those organisms.
- Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) This test determines the lowest concentration of the preservative you can use to inhibit visible growth of microorganisms.
This testing can be an expensive endeavor and our test kits offer an inexpensive alternative.
Within 48 hours our test pads s determine aerobic bacteria and yeast and fungi populations in your products. Each pad is coated with media that will encourage bacteria and yeast growth if you product preservative is not effective enough to disable it. Fast, Accurate, Results in 48 hours with three easy steps 1) Inoculate – Test pads are easy to inoculate. Either coat the pad or emerge it in a sample of your product. 2) Incubate – The space saving design maximizes incubator space. 3) Enumerate – To detect bacteria red indicator dye in the plate colors all colonies red. Yeast are typically indicated by small, blue-green colonies with defined edges and no foci. Molds are indicated by large, variably-colored colonies with diffuse edges and center foci.
