Lipstick Made from our Base

Cherry
The amount of pigment (or depth of color) you want to use if really up to you. I have supplied some guidelines here. If you want to lighten the color add more titanium , if you want to deepen the color add more pigment.

I have over simplified the recipe by using our base. If you want to make your own base please refer to our base recipes for suggestions. Before pouring the lipstick into your containers, smear a bit on the top of your hand to see if you would like to make adjustments. If it’s to soft add a bit of beeswax. If it’s too hard add more castor oil.

4-5 lipsticks in our melt and pour roll up tubes.
Castor Oil
20 grams
Melt and Pour Lipstick Base
20 grams
D&C Red #6
2 grams or 2 large scoops
Titanium Dioxide
4 grams or 4 large scoops

Measure out your castor oil and mix the pigments into the oil till they are well dispersed. (use small metal dish). Add you melt and pour base to the castor oil and pigment and melt over low heat. Mix with small spoon till thoroughly mixed. Pour into tubes placed at an angle into the egg carton. You may have to re-melt if the mix starts to solidify. Don’t fill to the top. Top off when the wax start to harden. You can transfer to small plastic pour containers for ease of pouring.

Instructions
  1. Measure out your base in a plastic or metal container depending on whether you are going to heat in the microwave or on the stove

  1. Melt the base and castor oil and add your pigment. If you use micas you will get a light translucent color, if you use strong pigment you will get a strong matte color. You can combine pigments and micas to get a strong color with iridescence.

  1. Test the color on the back of your hand and if it’s too your liking either pour it into the lipstick container (if you are using our melt and pour container) or draw it up into a syringe or pipette and decant it into our dial up or click pens.

  1. Let cool and then cap. For the roll up lipstick I put them in the freezer and let the lipstick get very hard. I then roll it up a tiny bit and shave off the top with a knife for a smooth look.
