Kissable Lipstick and Pencil Kit instructions

MAKING YOUR OWN LIP PRODUCTS

Lip Products basically consist of oils, waxes and pigments. There are several types of lip products that are popular today.

Cream Lipsticks: These are generally matte lipsticks that contain little or no pearl or gloss. (Red Oxide and FD&C Red #6)

Pearl Lipsticks: These are usually matte pigment combined with micas (all the other colors in your kit) that have a pearl effect in addition to the background color.

Lip gloss: a more fluid style of lip color with a high gloss effect.

Lip Products come in several types of packaging.

Lipstick Tubes: This type of lipstick has to be perfectly blended for consistency as they tend to break or melt too easily if the consistency is not right. They also pose other problems for the handcrafter as most of the tubes require that the lipstick is poured into a mold, chilled, released from the mold and then placed into the tube. This is an expensive and tricky process. For this reason we have found a tube where the lipstick can be poured directly into the tube and it has a slanted tip for easy application.

Lip gloss Containers: These containers are similar to a mascara container with a sponge applicator. The lip product is fairly easy to put into the tube with a pipette when it is still warm.

Jumbo Lip Pencils: These large pencils work much like a lipstick for application. The base is usually a bit firmer than a lipstick.

Slim line Lip Pencils: Generally used to line the lips. The lip product is generally a bit firmer than a lipstick as you don’t want smearing around the edge of the lip. We suggest using our eyeliner base for these.

Our easy pour lipstick tubes that come in your kit will give you a wind up lipstick without any need for a special mold.

Choosing your colors

This is really up to you. Your micas will give you a light semi transparent lipstick with some pearl effect. Generally start with about 1 large scoop per teaspoon and ½ of base. If you want a darker shade with more color payoff add one or two small scoops of pure pigment (Red Oxide and D&C Red #6).

The Base: Our base is ready to use. Nothing needs to be added with the exception of your color.

Basic Instruction

Measure out about 1.5 teaspoons of your base into the microwave beaker supplier. Place it into the microwave until completely melted.  Add your pigment.

Mix it in well and adjust your color till you have achieved your desired effect.

Pour it into your lipstick tube up to as high as you can without it overflowing. Put your tube in the refrigerator to set. Roll the tube all the way down before doing this.

For your lip liner pencil add a bit of red oxide to the remaining mix to darken the color. You will probably have to reheat it at this point as your base will have started to set (place the end cap on the pencil before filling).

Stir it well and draw 1.5 ml of the mix into your syringe. Inject the colored base into the syringe. It will not hold more than 1.3 ml.  You will feel resistance when it’s full. Let it set till hard.

When your lipstick has hardened roll the tube up enough so that you can cut your lipstick at an angle. This will give it a nice finished look.
